Featuring a close up view of the storied Semper Augustus tulip in Jan Davidsz de Heem's 'Vase with Flowers' (c. 1670). The Semper Augustus is possibly the most famous Tulip in history, known for its bold and beautiful streaks later found to be caused by the Tulip Breaking Virus. Unfortunately, this virus would eventually weaken the genetic line to the point of extinction, but the beauty was captured by artists such as de Heem for us to enjoy today.
