Semper Augustus Tulip On White Ceramic Hot Plate

This high quality ceramic hot plate (frequently known as a 'Table Mat' or 'Trivet') features the storied Semper Augustus flower in bloom. Considered possibly the most beautiful Tulip of the Dutch golden age, there are reports during Tulip Mania of just three bulbs selling for 10,000 florins - more than the price of a large canal house in the center of Amsterdam. This particular design, placed against a simple, white background, was likely for sellers to show off the flowers beauty and seek a potential buyer.
